Buenos Aires, Dec 1 (NA) -- The lawyer for nurse Dahiana Madrid, Rodolfo Baqué, expressed his surprise on Monday at the "double standard, double moral, and double legal thinking" of his colleague Fernando Burlando and Diego Junior Maradona Sinagra for opposing the hearing that should have begun next year for the jury trial to which the healthcare worker should be subjected for the death of Diego Armando Maradona, which occurred on November 25, 2020. In statements to the Argentine News Agency, Baqué stated: "They oppose the hearing for the start of Madrid's jury trial because the sentence in the initial Maradona trial is not final, but they did accept a hearing in the other cause of Diego's death, even though there is no final sentence." "What they are doing is a clear case of torture and institutional gender-based violence and a violation of Dahiana Madrid's rights," Baqué lashed out. Burlando, who represents Maradona's eldest daughters, Dalma and Giannina, in the case, agreed with Diego Junior Maradona Sinagra's argument. A preliminary hearing in the case investigating Diego Armando Maradona's death will take place this Tuesday at the San Isidro Courthouses, according to case sources to the Argentine News Agency. The session will begin at 10:30 at Ituzaingó 340 and will address the witnesses who will testify in the trial that will resume on March 17, 2026, and the evidentiary agreements. The hearing was supposed to take place on November 12 of last year but was suspended due to problems with the lawyers' schedules. "It doesn't surprise me that Burlando doesn't want a jury trial," Baqué said. "We'll see what Judge María Coelho decides. It's all or nothing." The jury trial against Madrid would be next February, and the other case with seven accused on the bench will resume on March 17, 2026, so the plaintiffs would seek for the case against the nurse to begin after a sentence is handed down in the other one. "The prosecutors do want to hold the jury trial and have requested the hearing to take place," Baqué concluded.
